The Ferris Wheel is a lighting art piece in the form of a classic ferris wheel. As the wheel is cranked, faint memories of my childhood reflect on the wall. This piece is part of a two week project for the IESNYC lighting competition.
The Ferris Wheel is inspired by my spinning lantern I had as a kid that projected fantastical images on the wall as I fell asleep.
It also is reminiscent of old film projectors that rapidly changes slides to tell a story.
Playing with found objects and cutting out shapes in transparent materials sparked how these reflections can form narratives.
For the form I mimicked a traditional ferris wheel shape. Collages attach around the sides of the form with a light source in the center to illuminate the designs.
